Crew > Peter

petePeter Charles Hughes, born in Bahrain (Persian Gulf) in 1958 where his mother & father worked during the sixties.

Attended Newton Abbot Grammar School, Devon, England.

The eldest of 6 brothers, Peter joined the Royal Navy in 1976 at the age of 17. He served for 22 years in the Supply and Secretariat branch, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander RN. He was Portsmouth Field Gun Officer for the 1989 Royal Tournament, took Navy sports colours for Skiing, Windsurfing and Sailing, and spent a total of 9 years overseas and at sea on HMS Bristol, HMS Londonderry, HMS Gurkha, HMS Coventry and HMS Fearless.

Taking early retirement from the Navy in 1998, Pete took his RYA Yachtmasters ticket and travelled to Grand Cayman in 1999 to work as a boat Captain for Red Sail Sports. He captained onboard a fleet of three 65ft catamarans taking tours to the world famous Stingray City. After 3 years he went on to manage the Cayman Islands Sailing Club and then again went back to work in the tourist industry when the opportunity to skipper the 92 ft trimaran 'Safir' came along.

Peter is currently working for the British Red Cross in Grand Cayman as their Training Manager, instructing First Aid, CPR and AED.
