We left the dock at 0830 and cleared with port security over the radio. The weather was fantastic, not as much wind as we hoped for. Both excited and couldn't believe that this was the day we'd been planning for over the last few months!

We motored across North Sound and once out of the main channel we set the sails, putting a preventer on the boom. As we were heading down wind we had to hand steer all day, the wind vane self steering doesn't like this point of sail and 'Otto' our German Auto Pilot can be very temperamental at times.

The fishing rods came out and we hoped for tuna for supper ñ no such luck with a full moon present.

By 1800 the wind died away and we prepared for our first night at sea, 3 hour watches starting at 2000. Tiring but elating.

By midnight ñ 47 miles covered.
