Tropical Storm Gamma tested our 2 anchors and our wits, sending us 45 knot winds and torrential rain for 5 days. The holding at Hole in the Wall is excellent and is surrounded by mangroves. During Hurricane Mitch in 1998 (which killed over 5000 people in Honduras), all the shrimp boats were stacked up in there and did quite well.

We managed to catch the chicken bus (I'm sure you can work it out!) to French Harbour on Saturday, to see friends we met in La Ceiba. There is a long winding dirt track through rainforest terrain which leads up to the main road. There we caught one of the buses which run the length of the island. The views are stunning here. Rugged hills as far as the eye can see, protected by a reef system similar to the Cayman Islands.

Quiet little inlets litter the coast line and the properties range from small wooden shacks to simply luxurious. Out of the three islands this one has the airport which runs flights direct to Miami and Houston and therefore has the most tourism at the moment.
